Modifies aircraft to install dual Delco C-IV Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) for attitude and direction reference, navigation, and auto-pilot steering. Also adds a Sperry DG-207 Directional Gyro in the Aux position and Azimuth switching capability. The VG-DG racks are replaced by the INS Navigation units in the above configuration, but the modification permits replacing the INS Navigation units with VG-DG racks to provide triple VG-DG for attitude and direction reference only. The installation is in accordance with DAS-1-WE Approved United Air Lines Drawing List No. COA 3-2023, dated March 22, 1977, or later FAA approved revisions. United Air Lines FAA Approved Flight Manual Supplement to McDonnell Douglas Flight Manual Document Number MDC-J1010 dated February 17, 1977, or later FAA approved revision is required as part of this installation.
