Introduction of an air conditioning filter into the air conditioning system of Boeing 757 200/300 series aircraft to remove odours and particulates from the air.
A section of air conditioning duct, behind the sidewall lining of the forward cargo
compartment will be removed from the existing system and replaced with an air conditioning filter assembly containing a two-stage filter element.
The first stage removes airborne particulate contamination by the principle of filtration. The second stage of the filter, using carbon absorbent filter removes gaseous contamination by the principle of absorption. In this application, it improves the aircraft cabin air quality by adsorbing odours from the re-circulated air.
The two-stage filter assembly comprises of both, a filtration element and an absorption element.
The filtration principle is approved and used on the Airbus A320 avionics cooling system where it protects the electronics equipment from damage by preventing particulate contamination from entering the avionics cooling bay (in particular, fine carbon and sand particles).
The filtration principle type of adsorbent filter has already been approved on the Airbus A330/340 cabin air recirculation system
