Installation of a Talon Retractable Searchlight and Landing Light using LED lamps

The Talon Aerospace Retractable Search Light is designed to replace the existing incandescent fixture installed on various Bell 206/407 platforms, but will also fit various other rotorcraft applications. Talon designed the unit with a modular approach, allowing the replacement of the retractable searchlight and landing light (if equipped) with LED versions.

The retractable searchlight has 2 available bulb inserts, a full white LED insert which maximizes white light output as well as a mixed white LED/ Infrared LED unit which provides night vision mixed with white light output.

The unit has an improved mechanical design with solid state electronics, digital motor controller and auto-stow functionality.

The existing incandescent sealed beam lamp used for this application has a 10 hour design life. The Talon LED searchlight has a 20,000 design life, eliminating frequent maintenance activities.

For retrofit Talon supplies the retractable searchlight with an installation kit which includes a carbon fiber mounting panel, a thermoform inner liner and all required hardware to mount the unit to the helicopter. For some applications Talon also can supply a separate LED landing light mounted on the panel. A mil spec connector on the housing allows for quick line maintenance replacement.

The retractable searchlight is compatible with existing cockpit controls.
