Introduction

AFIRS™ (Automated Flight Information Reporting Systems) 228 family provides Iridium Global Voice & Data service in real-time, and offer a direct communication link to your aircraft, ensuring safe, secure operations and greater in-flight operational control.

 

AFIRS™ 228 models are designed and engineered to meet a variety of aviation requirements, such as AOC/ATS Safety SATCOM voice, ACARS over Iridium and FANS datalink.

 

AFIRS also includes ACARS like services such as automated block and flight times collection and reporting into operational systems, global flight tracking, two-way text messaging (iPad, MCDU), aircraft health monitoring including engine data collection for trending, engine/airframe exceedances, real-time flight data management.

Product Description

AFIRS 228S Iridium SATCOM, provides the following key operational services/capabilities:

  • AOC global SATCOM voice to meet long range communications, as a much less costly alternative and greater reliability, to that of antiquated HF comms.
  • Two-way text messaging through an A739A compliant MCDU between crew and OCC.
  • Automated block and flight (OOOI / MVT messages) time collection and reporting, and can feed these times automatically and directly in to Ops system(s) (i.e. SITA, Sabre, Merlot, AIMS, Geneva, etc.).
  • Automated flight following position reporting, ensuring compliance with impending ICAO GADSS flight following mandate for November 2018 (including United Nations, Humanitarian and Oil and Gas contracts).
  • Real-time automated take-off and stable cruise engine data collection, and sent directly to GE or 3rd party group for trending purposes for ECTM, ETOPS compliance, etc.
  • Real-time automated engine exceedance reporting (i.e. EGT, vibration, over-speed, etc. as per AMM).
  • Real-time automated airframe exceedance reporting (i.e. hard landing, flap extension over-speed, etc. as per AMM).
  • Built in Quick Access Recorder (QAR), for data to be used for FDM/FOQA/SMS, and / or IOSA certification support.
  • Potential for annual hull and liability premium reduction, by having AFIRS provide real-time operational awareness, providing proactive / pre-emptive action for safer operations and risk mitigation (numerous customers have confirmed they receive this annual savings).
  • ACARS over Iridium while outside VHF coverage and over oceanic airspace.
  • We include the complete AFIRS installation kit, rights to use our FAA, EASA, TCCA and Chinese and other applicable STCs, making it super simple for the airline to install the AFIRS SATCOM.
  • Typical lead time for complete AFIRS installation kit and rights to use FTG STC is 60-90 days, upon receipt of purchase order and aircraft data.

Safety Voice and Data AFIRS 228S “TSO” Iridium SATCOM, provides the following key operational services/capabilities:

  • AOC/ATS Safety Voice, ACARS over Iridium while outside of VHF coverage and over oceanic airspace, and FANS datalink.
  • We include the complete AFIRS installation kit, rights to use our FAA, EASA, TCCA and Chinese and other applicable STCs, making it super simple for the airline to install the AFIRS SATCOM.
  • Typical lead time for complete AFIRS installation kit and rights to use FTG STC is 60-90 days, upon receipt of purchase order and aircraft data.
